During our 3-day trip to Phu Quoc, Vietnam, we had Vinpearl Safari as one of the flagship locations to visit. Vinpearl Safari is part of a wider set of theme parks run by the Vingroup, which also runs many of the hotels nearby, a water park, the free-to-use Vinbus transport system, and VinWonders (home to one of Asia’s largest aquariums, the Sea Shell).

All that to say Vingroup will likely touch some point of your trip here in Phu Quoc. Shuttles to Vinpearl Safari are free through the Vinbus system, which is recommended if you’re close to a shuttle stop (they are sprinkled throughout the main tourist areas, but the main stop is Grand World). Grabs are available as well.

Entrance fees can be found below.

    • I’d recommend this one as VinWonders comes highly recommended, and both are achievable in 1-day

The Exhibits

There are a few marquee exhibits that I’d recommend checking out, and some I’d recommend skipping (especially if you’re on a time crunch and attempting to do both this and VinWonders in 1-day).

Recommended: Giraffe Cafe

Going to the Giraffe Cafe for lunch is highly recommended. The giraffes are very comfortable with people and are pretty well-trained to eat the carrots provided (30k VND). I got them to come to me with my empty coconut. However, lunchtime is peak traffic so be prepared for crowds jostling over space for photos here. For a less busy time, I’d recommend coming past 1 pm.

This was one of the highlights of our Vietnam trip, so I’d certainly recommend visiting here (the entrance fee is almost worth it entirely for this experience).

Recommended: Tiger Feeding

It was less busy at the tiger feeding area, as most of the crowd went straight to the elephants or giraffes. However, the placement of the feeding viewing area is great and close to the tigers, albeit the glass is quite foggy, so for photos: it’s not ideal (although it provides a nice hazy cast that I like). Seeing these predators up close and personal, and seeing how they interact with each other during feeding, is fascinating.

Feeding times vary so make sure to check the map area as you enter the park. They were fed at 11 am when we were there.

Less Recommended: Safari

I was disappointed in the actual safari part of this park. Being funnelled around in a giant electric bus isn’t what I would typically associate with a safari, but safety is the priority, and that makes sense.

I wasn’t so much disappointed in that, but more so with the quality of the ride itself. Quoted to be around 30 minutes, ours felt quite rushed at around 10-15 minutes. We also didn’t see very much, and the bus wouldn’t linger in any one spot. The tour guide also wouldn’t chat too much, or inform us of the animals around us. There is a moon bear as one of the highlights here, but the guide didn’t mention that during the ride.

However, the line for the safari was fast, so there’s that.

Recommended: Elephants

Between 9 am – 4 pm, you’re able to feed the elephants using the feed provided by the park (30k VND) and would be another recommended experience while you’re at the park.

It’s recommended to come here after lunch, as the feeding times end at 4 pm, but sometimes sooner if the park rangers feel that the elephants are done eating.

Overall Thoughts

Much of the rest of the park I didn’t find overly unique versus other zoos, so I mostly highlighted what I found to be unique experiences here. Overall, I would recommend it to any visitor to Phu Quoc with spare time. The giraffe experience, especially, is one to remember from this trip, and almost worth it alone for the entrance fee. I would recommend purchasing the combined VinWonders ticket as it’s possible to do both parks in 1-day, and it also comes with meal vouchers.
