Homestay Review: May Trang Villa in Dalat (2025)

I have very fond memories of my week in Dalat. The food was consistently great, the views were impeccable, the people so delightful. For any one visiting the city, that’s often known to be a travel hotspot for Ho Chi Minh locals (it’s a very short flight away from the main city, and dramatically cooler in temperature), I’d recommend them stay out of the city center, and look at a homestay in the mountains nearby.

I stumbled onto May Trang Villa. I didn’t know much about the homestay prior, except for the fact that the reviews were good, the location a little of the way, but still close enough to the main city that a 20-30 minute walk was very doable.

The villa caters to those with plant-based and non-GMO diets, and has a focus on being environmentally friendly while using local products. There is a no-smoking policy throughout the facilities.

Overview of Facilities

The villa offers 18 guest rooms, across 3 floors, with a restaurant attached, a bar near the entrance, and a meditation area nestled in between the two. They offered daily room cleaning, which I typically decline for my stays, but the staff were so nice and actually insisted on cleaning my room periodically. I didn’t want to be rude and decline such an offer. There’s also free bananas replenished almost infinitely daily in the lobby. Wifi was good and even worked in the outside bar. They have a house dog who’s really friendly – but keep in mind that he becomes quite the guard dog at night.

Staff

I noticed that the staff in most of the stays in Vietnam were often overbearing, especially with requesting reviews and trying to upsell tourist packages to you upon check in. This was not the case at all with the staff (Tran) at May Trang Villa. Tran was so accomodating and very communicative via Agoda Chat prior and during my stay. She, and the rest of the staff, were very kind.

Here’s a list of the things they’d help me with during my stay:

  • They’d suggest things to do (when I reached out first)
  • Helped me book a meditation/yoga session with a private group (for free)
  • Cooked me a meal on my first night after the restaurant closed
  • Upgraded me to a larger room with a gorgeous view as I stayed for a week
  • Did my laundry (for free)
  • Shipped a package to me in Ho Chi Minh after I left something in one of the rooms

I know they can’t sustainably do the same thing for all guests, but I greatly appreciated how much they went above and beyond for me. Truly 5-star service.

Room

The Deluxe Double w/ Window room featured a beautiful view of the valley, and featured a spacious living main room. The bed was comfortable, and again, daily room service was offered. Chargers were aplenty and never really an issue for me (I have a lot of devices). Working on the table by the window was a tremendously serene experience. Some downsides: the rooms aren’t perfect, and probably won’t live up to the ‘4-star hotel’ rating on Google. There are spots on the walls that are cracked, and the TV didn’t work (or perhaps I couldn’t figure it out). The bathroom had a slightly broken tray, as well as quite a dirty window. Soundproofing is indeed an issue, as oft brought up in other reviews online.

Altogether though, I was still very satisfied with the rooms here.

Conclusion

May Trang Villa offers a tremendous amount for the price paid (it was one of the lowest priced private room hotels in Dalat). The views, restaurant, meditation room, and staff, are all excellent. Bathrooms and sound proofing could use some work, however.

Overall, I would 100% come back here for a vacation, or even a meditation retreat. The staff really made the experience memorable, and I can’t thank Tran enough for that.
