There’s something about drinking in Spain that’s just extremely satisfying – the wines are typically all of exceptional quality, at a much more affordable cost vs. being back at home in Canada/United States.

The island of Mallorca is rich in wineries, and I’d highly recommend adding a wine tasting to your itinerary as you explore the beautiful island. We visited Bodegas Bordoy for their wine tour and lunch offer.

What’s Included?

For €29-39, you’ll have the following options:

  • Pa Amb Oli: Tasting of 5 wines, Mallorcan bread, serrano ham, cheeses, chorizo, salami olives, sobrasada, biscuits, and fruit.
  • Vegetarian: Tasting of 5 wines, and a selection of seasonal vegetables, hummus, Mallorcan bread, fruit, olives, nuts, and biscuits

The tour lasts about 60-90 minutes, but you can certainly stay on location longer if you’d like – at least, we got that impression ourselves!

How’d It Go?

The tour begins with a walk through the vineyards, fermentation, and bottling areas. Our guide shared fun facts about the grounds, such as how there’s a rose planted at the ends of some rows to act as gauges for soil health – the canaries in the coal mine of the winery industry. She also shared how the grapes that are soaked in the fermentation process are sometimes fed to sheep, resulting in some stumbling and happy sheep in the fields. She would also go through in detail the process of aging wine in the barrel room. It was a funny, engaging and informative walk.

We opted for the Pa Amb Oli and found that the food was delicious, and more than enough for our group of 3 (and I’m a pretty big eater). The cheeses were especially good tasting and strong in flavour.

When we got to the tasting portion, we were already in good spirits. The corking process was shown in detail here as well. With that, we were off to tasting their 5 wines, from white -> red. The glasses were very generous, and the staff were very attentive. The wines tasted great and proved to be certainly more potent than normal. They serve plenty of water in between, which is great for recovery.

Are the Staff Great?

Absolutely. Oftentimes, these experiences are made or broken by customer service, but it’s safe to say that we had a blast with our guide here. They offer service in Spanish, English, and German, primarily, and were always in good spirits. I guess it must be nice to work at a beautiful winery such as this!

Final Thoughts, Recommendations

Visiting Bodegas Bordoy in Palma de Mallorca was one of the highlights of our entire Europe trip (where we toured around the United Kingdom, Spain, and Portugal for 3 weeks), so this experience would come highly recommended from me.

Book this if you have time! Bookings are highly recommended as they often fill up quickly. Allocate approximately 1-2 hours to spend here.
